| Social Security raise for 2027 | Done: 3.6%, announced by the Social Security Administration on October 14, 2026 and published in the Federal Register on October 26, 2026. |
| The 2027 compensation bill | Not law yet. S. 4487 was introduced in the Senate on May 11, 2026 and sent to the Veterans' Affairs Committee. H.R. 8552 was introduced in the House on April 28, 2026, and a subcommittee sent it to the full committee on June 30, 2026. Both would raise VA rates by the Social Security percentage. |
| VA's 2027 rate table | Not published yet. VA's rate page still shows the 2026 rates, effective December 1, 2025. |
Every year Congress passes a separate law for this raise. Last year's, for 2026, was Public Law 119-42, signed November 25, 2025, and it raised rates 2.8%.
Projected 2027 pay chart Estimate
We built this the way VA builds its table: the basic amounts and the 100% amounts for dependents go up 3.6%, and for ratings of 30% to 90% the dependent amounts are rounded down to the whole dollar, as the law requires (38 U.S.C. 1115). Built the same way from 2025, this method gives VA's 2026 table to the cent. It changes only if the final raise isn't 3.6%. We'll replace it with VA's table as soon as it's out.

When the raise would be paid
The bill would raise the rates from December 1, 2026. VA pays at the beginning of each month for the month before, so December's payment comes at the start of January. January 1, 2027 is New Year's Day, a federal holiday. When the first of the month falls on a weekend or holiday, the law tells VA, as far as practicable, to pay on the weekday before it (38 U.S.C. 5120(e)). So the first payment at the higher rate would arrive on Thursday, December 31, 2026, if the raise is law by then.

Questions people ask
What will VA disability rates be in 2027?
If the expected 3.6% raise becomes law, about $186.92 a month at 10%, $1,873.55 at 70% and $4,080.37 at 100% for a veteran with no dependents. These are our estimates from the 2026 table until VA publishes its own.
Is the 2027 VA disability increase official?
Not yet. The Social Security raise of 3.6% is official, but the bill that applies it to VA compensation (S. 4487 and H.R. 8552) hadn't become law as of November 7, 2026, and VA hadn't published 2027 rates.
When will I see the 2027 increase?
The raise would take effect December 1, 2026. VA pays each month at the start of the next one, and because January 1, 2027 is a holiday, that payment is due on December 31, 2026, if the raise is law by then.
How much will 100% VA disability pay in 2027?
About $4,080.37 a month for a veteran alone and about $4,307.87 with a spouse, if rates rise 3.6%. These are our estimates until VA publishes its table.
Does the raise apply to dependent amounts too?
Yes. The bill raises every dollar amount in the basic rates (38 U.S.C. 1114) and in the added amounts for dependents (38 U.S.C. 1115), along with the clothing allowance and survivors' compensation.
